How to combine Seychelles with an African Safari?

It’s an open secret that the Seychelles is home to some of the world’s best beaches. After the excitement of a African safari, not to mention the early sunrise starts, there’s nothing better than seeking out an idyllic romantic retreat for a few days or a week of easy beach relaxation.

But what’s the best way to combine the Seychelles with a safari?

Seychelles

The Seychelles combines well with a safari in Tanzania, Kenya as well as the KrugerPark of South Africa.  or even Botswana, Zambia and Victoria Falls.

The questions of where to go for your safari is an important one: If you wish to see the Big Five upclose and personal, prefer the thrill of a night drive and perhaps don’t want to travel around too much then we suggest Southern Africa. Depending on how long you have, you could opt for one of the private game reserves of the Greater Kruger such as the Sabi Sands or Timbavati. If you have more time, you could combine the Okavango Delta of Botswana with Victoria Falls. All could work very well with the Seychelles. The best time for such a safari would be in the dryer months from May to October but the private game reserves of South Africa offer good game-viewing throughout the year if your marriage is at another time…

Tip: Given the flight schedule and time difference, you will have to overnight in Johannesberg after your safari as the flight to the Seychelles departs in the morning.

However this means that from a practical point of view there is no difference between the wildlife areas of the Greater Kruger Park, Okavango Delta, Hwange, South Luangwa in terms of getting from there to the Seychelles. You always have to overnight!

Practicalities – Flights between Seychelles and South Africa

SAA (South African Airways)& Air Seychelles fly between Johannesburgand Mahe on Tuesday, Fridays and Sundays.

If you are on honeymoon, you could opt to relax at the beach first (to recover from the wedding) and then arrive into South Africa at 11:10 am in time to connect to your safari in Kruger. However if you prefer to start with your safari you are able to get from Johannesburg to Mahe arriving at 19:20. We can also book your flight all the way from Johannesburg to Pralin on the same day.

However If you have always dreamed of the great wildebeest migration and are happy and keen to move between lodges to see different parts of the country, then an East African Safari would be perfect to combine with an island getaway in the Seychelles. Typically the best time to travel would be from Mid June to October. The wildebeest migration route is year round phenomenon but if it’s vast herds of wildlife you are looking for, then the best time is typically from mid June to late July in  the Serengeti of Tanzania and then the start of the famous river crossings between July and August into the Masai Mara of Kenya.

Kenya Airways flies between the Seychelles and Nairobi on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays arriving midday at 13:15. Air Seychelles also flies between Dar Es Salaam and Mahe on Tuesdays and Sundays. arriving at 11:05 into Dar Es Salaam.
